The Rising Appeal of Marble Falls: A Community on the Move

As Austin continues to experience a surge in population, its neighboring communities are also witnessing notable growth. Among these, Marble Falls is a prime example of a small town attracting an increasing number of new residents.

Danna Laine Doremus, owner of "The Oil Tap" on Main Street, reflects this trend. After observing the town’s bustling activity and growth, Doremus established her business in Marble Falls. "We have been down here three years, and in those three years, I saw the need to open a second location," Doremus shared, expressing her excitement about the town's promising future (KXAN, 2024).

Driving into Marble Falls from Austin, one can't miss the numerous new developments emerging, marked by "for sale" signs—a testament to the town's rapid expansion. Kelcei Shaver, a resident in one of these new developments, appreciates the small-town charm and hopes it remains intact despite the growth. "Slower pace, people know my coffee order," she said, highlighting the community's tight-knit and friendly atmosphere (KXAN, 2024).

The Marble Falls Economic Development Corporation reports that approximately 150 to 200 people are moving to Marble Falls each year. Data from 2022 to 2023 reveals a significant spike, with nearly 500 new residents settling in the area.

Christian Fletcher, representing the corporation, noted the inevitability of this growth. "We knew it was going to be a matter of time before the residential growth on the south side of the lake would bring enough activity there that would finally start driving some of the retail there," he explained (KXAN, 2024).

As Marble Falls continues to evolve, it maintains a delicate balance between growth and preserving its unique small-town appeal. This community's ongoing development reflects a broader trend of urban sprawl from larger cities like Austin while still holding on to the qualities that make it a beloved home for its residents.
